Monday Night 1993 Sessions – The Birth of Jungle on Kool FM

Every Monday from 7pm until midnight, Original Kool Archives transports listeners back to one of the most important years in underground music history: 1993.

For many fans, 1993 represents the moment when hardcore rave began its transformation into jungle. The sound was changing rapidly. Breakbeats became rougher, basslines became heavier, and a new generation of DJs and MCs emerged to create something entirely unique.

Our dedicated Monday night playlist celebrates this incredible period through a carefully curated selection of authentic Kool FM recordings captured directly from the airwaves.

Why 1993 Was So Important

The recordings from 1993 document a scene in transition. You can hear rave influences colliding with reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and sound system culture to create the foundations of jungle music.

These broadcasts are more than just DJ sets. They are a living record of jungle music history and the evolution of UK pirate radio culture.

Authentic Kool FM Recordings

Every set featured in the playlist comes from the Original Kool Archives collection, one of the largest collections of Kool FM tapes and pirate radio recordings in existence.

The crackle of the signal, the station jingles, the shout-outs and the raw energy all help recreate the authentic experience of listening to Kool FM in 1993.

Relive the Beginning

Whether you were there the first time around or are discovering the music for the first time, Monday nights offer a unique opportunity to experience the birth of jungle through genuine Kool FM archive recordings.

Join us every Monday from 7pm until midnight and hear the sounds that changed UK dance music forever.
